Stick with GCP or Change to a Commercial PIREP Software?

Here is where the coffee machine and Coke machine are kept. Please clean up after yourself and do not remove the magazines from this area. A good place to exchange thoughts with Operations personel and other pilots.

Stick with GCP or Change to a Commercial PIREP Software?

Post by nwadc10 »

We are considering changing from GCP to a commercially available PIREP software (which one is yet to be determined). Please caste your vote to either keep GCP or switch to another software.

The catalyst for this consideration is that GCP development takes by far the most of my time in terms of GC administration. In addition I am an amateur programmer, although I do enjoy coding, and that significantly extends development time.

Let us know what you think!

I voted undecided.

I would like to be able to fly with Xplane 11. If this is not possible with GCP then I would choose for an other software. Otherwise we can keep GCP.

I have been working on an update to GCP that adds Xplane support. With or without GCP we will be adding the Xplane platform to GC.

Hi Justin,

I changed my vote to keep GCP.
If Xplane will be availible, GCP is still a nice ACARS.

My vote is to keep GCP because of the MEL's / Maint log, CAT status ETC..

I like that part of it the best. Its the reason i love flying for Globe personally.

If you could somehow have that in a commercial program i could see the change, but having all the above items is what sets this place apart from the others.

Just my opinion.

GCP is a unique piece of software and it would be a great pity to lose the very useful features it has.

That is an advantage to in house development. We wouldn't get anywhere near that customization anywhere else.

I'll leave the poll open for a few more days. At this point it looks like I should continue working on the next GCP update.

In regards to the update, the next version will include XPlane support. I had been working on an automated way to determine if you are using XPL or FSX/P3D. While it works when running GCP on the same computer as XPL I am having trouble getting it to automatically determine XPL running if GCP is run over a network via WideFS (part of FSUIPC.) In order to push the update out sooner which includes a network error fix, which currently requires a new user to download an updated exe, I will change the XPL support to require a manual selection of FSX/P3D or XPL being used.

Our XPlane support in general needs more work but I'm hoping the GCP update and our official XPlane support are released concurrently.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the poll. Looks like I will be getting back to work on the next update. I still have aspirations of rewriting the program from the ground up and maybe I can finally do that after this next update.
