Charter Functionality - update

Post by thansson »

I would like to announce that we have implemented new Charter functionality on the website with a bunch of new and exciting features:
  1. Charters will now support multiple legs! When one leg is completed, the next one will be automatically posted. This will save our Charter Managers from manually re-posting a flight and you will see a much quicker turn-around on the lists! Creating these multi-leg flights will be a gradual process so expect them to start showing up over the next few weeks. Until then - business as usual!
  2. We have added a bunch of new fields to the charter flights such as times, payload, distance, tail number and a reserved pilot field. The tail numbers are populated from the aircraft database and depend on the selected airframe.
  3. Pilots can contact the Charter Managers to have custom flights created (time permitting of course) and those flights will be reserved for that pilot only.
  4. A reset button has been added to the flight list and allows pilots to reset their own flights. So now you can reset your own flights! However, there is a catch!
  5. A point system has been implemented! 1 point for manual resets and 2 points for reset of flights that have not been completed in 48 hours. Once you accumulate six points, you will be locked out from further Charter flights until the oldest points get wiped. It takes 90 days for points to get wiped. So here is a scenario:
    • Jan 1 - Manual reset : 1 point
    • Jan 4 - Automated reset of flight that was not completed in 48 hours: 2 points
    • Feb 1 - Auto reset: 2 points
    • Feb 15 - Manual reset: 1 point
At this time you will not be able to fly any charters until the oldest points resets on March 28th!
Charter admins will no longer perform resets on flights since the pilots can do this themselves now. Using this point system, you are given six manual resets until you get locked out. You can view your accumulated points on your profiles page (visible only to you)! And yes, the admins can wipe points if you contact them and give them a good reason!
  6. Charter flights can no longer be booked if you are over your FAR limit! You can see your accumulated hours and the limits by clicking your name on the roster. This page can be viewed by all pilots.
There is a lot of new stuff. Most of it should be transparent to you as pilots. As with any new functionality, there are bound to be issues here and there...
You can discuss the new changes over here. viewtopic.php?f=52&t=4632
Please also use this topic to report any issues that you have and I will be monitoring it during the week...

Gents,

After a brief discussion we have decided to revoke all points that our pilots currently have. Those who had 6 or 7 points and locked themselves out from being able to fly Atlas and Titan charters, can enjoy them again. Those who wanted to get promoted but had 2+ points and became ineligible for the process because of that can now re-apply.

Some changes to GC lay ahead and we would like all our pilots to be able to fully enjoy the process, hence the points reset. Please enjoy this 'freedom' responsibly though. The system is still there and if you get 6 new points you will be locked out for a quite lengthy period of time.

Please carefully read Tomas' post above so that you are fully aware how the point system works. Also, please remember that although you can always contact your Region Manager or me if you think your points should be wiped, you do need to have a good reason.

You can still use this topic to discuss the charter system.

Ok folks, now the playing field is level, so let the flights, studying, testing and upgrades begin.

And please keep a couple things in mind. First, as explained above and in the manual, if you ask for a charter flight and something happens which prevents you from taking the flight, just check it back in or fire off an e-mail asking for help. It is not even close to Rocket Science...

Second, and equally as important. You can only expect to get out of this or any organization, that which you put into it. If you have not volunteered to help, in any way, shame on you. There are many many functions or tasks which need to be done and in many of them, experience is not required. We have a lot of department managers who would love even part time occasional help.

Okay, I will get off the Soap Box now.... 8)
