I had read before that some older aircraft are approved to use reverse thrust in flight. It's the equivalent of using speed brakes. FedEx bought Tigers and merged in 89 if I remember correctly. Many of the founders of Polar were in fact ex-Tiger officials. The similarity of Polar to Flying Tigers is definitely intentional
